Reality Therapy/Choice Theory
Reality Therapy/Choice Theory. The reality therapy approach to counselling is a problem-solving focused therapy based on the here-and-now actions of the individual and the ability to create and choose a better future. The person seeks to discover what they really want and how they are currently choosing to behave in order to achieve these goals. Reality Therapy attempts to separate the person from the behaviour. Just because someone is experiencing distress resulting from a social problem does not make them sick; it just makes them out of sorts with their psychological needs.
